Frequently asked questions

Do employees have to participate in hypnosis during a training course?

No not at all....It is entirely their choice. They will still benefit greatly from the style of training and other techniques used, however to get the maximum benefit participation is advised.

Is hypnosis safe?

Yes. It is a safe, natural part of human experience. Always protected by our subconscious, trance is a part of everyday life. We are already proficient in its use; we simply don’t recognise it. (If delegates have a serious mental health condition, they should consult their GP before participating)

Who can be hypnotised?

Just about everyone if they choose and can concentrate for the few moments it requires.

What is it like to be hypnotised?

In experiencing altered states it should be acknowledged that trance is slightly different for everyone. Most find it extremely pleasant, enjoyable and relaxing, saying they’ve never felt so agreeably relaxed and comfortable before.

What can hypnosis be used for?

Having many uses, it is scarcely possible to list them all. It is successful with weight control, stopping smoking, pain control, stress management, sexual, social and psychological problems. It also improves sports, learning and business skills. It also can be used to enhance creativity and as a stimulus to help people gain insights into their life or business.

Can I be forced into a trance?

No. It is a state of mind that needs your co-operation. No-one goes against their own unique code of behaviour in hypnosis. Many children are exceptionally good at entering trance, but only if they choose. When teenagers are brought for therapy by parents – the practitioner stands little chance unless he/she makes a “contract” with them, “I will only work with you if you want to, it must be your own individual choice”

Am I too strong-willed to be hypnotised?

Strength of will plays no part in the process.

I’m too intelligent to be hypnotised!

Wrong – intelligence has nothing to do with it.

Will the hypnotist be mysterious and use a swinging watch and other paraphernalia to hypnotise me?

No. A competent hypnotist needs no airs, graces or spookiness. It is highly unlikely that any swinging watches, flashing lights or gimmicky props will be used, nor weird rituals needed. The hypnotist is likely to be a perfectly normal human being, probably just talking you into a pleasant, enjoyable trance.

Do hypnotised persons lose control of themselves?

Quite the opposite, the client is in control of their trance and will do only that which seems right and helpful.

Can I get ‘stuck’ in a trance?

No. It simply doesn’t happen. Many enjoy being in hypnosis so much, they sometimes are reluctant to return to a normal state of awareness, but they will come out of trance as soon as they are ready. Even if they’re determined to stay indefinitely, the hypnotic state turns into ordinary sleep, and they shortly awaken feeling refreshed and relaxed.

Will I be in the hypnotist’s power?

Certainly not. Hypnotists cannot force anybody to do anything against their will. You can choose not to comply with any disagreeable suggestion. Many are very much more determined and assertive than in their normal state of being.

Will I reveal any secrets?

No. It’s not a truth drug. You choose what to reveal, moreover you can lie in trance!

Could the hypnotist take advantage of me in any way?

No. He/She has no more opportunity to exploit than a hairdresser, plumber or local shopkeeper. But, just as it is important to find a competent hairdresser, etc., it is equally important to make sure you have a good and capable hypnotist.

How are the hypnotists trained?

The training hypnotists receive is varied, depending on which school they attend. Some are only trained in direct suggestion; others have a broader selection of therapeutic techniques. Hypnosis is a very practical skill and cannot be well taught through correspondence courses, of which there are several. To ensure the practitioner of your choice has sufficient training, interview him/her over the phone or face to face. My training was extensive and grounded in experiential learning covering all aspects of hypnotic induction and therapeutic techniques at the Proudfoot School Of Clinical Hypnosis and Psychotherapy.

What is the minimum/maximum number of delegates allowed for group sessions?

How many delegates varies depending on what training is required. Group sessions work best with at least FOUR delegates. This allows for teamwork in pairs and improves the group dynamic for exercises and tasks (Smaller groups can be arranged with prior arrangement).

The maximum delegate number is TEN. This ensures enough time can be allocated for teamwork and exercises without diluting the course content (Larger groups can be arranged with prior arrangement).

Why 'In house' training?

First off, it's cost effective as there are no overheads to cover such as room hire or staff travel expenses etc. The date and time is more flexible and can chosen by you and the surroundings are familiar to your staff. In our experience it also provides an often rare opportunity for staff from different departments or teams to meet up and put a face to a name and even help improve communication across teams.

Key Benefits

  • You choose a date and venue to suit your business
  • Cost effective
  • Familiar environment
  • Team building opportunity

What is the dress code?

Dress code is whatever your company policy states. However you may wish to remove jackets/blazers to allow freedom of movement and comfort during any teamwork/tasks.

What is the structure for the group session day?

Start time is usually 9.00 am with a view to finishing around 5.00 pm. We usually stop for 45 minutes for lunch and have a 15 minute comfort break in the morning and afternoon. These timings can of course be adapted to fit your core business hours.

What is the structure for the 1:1 sessions?

1:1 sessions last approx 60 - 90 minutes depending on individual needs and can be conducted in either a quiet room at your location or at my Hypnotherapy practice located in East Dereham, Norfolk, or via Skype Video call. Staff attending due to long term absence are required to attend my practice before conducting sessions back within the workplace as a way of easing them back into the work environment.

Do delegates require any experience or knowledge prior to attending?

No, just bring an open mind and be willing to learn. (If delegates have a serious mental health condition, they should consult their GP before participating)

Do you offer bespoke/company specific training?

Yes. We can work closely with you on a specific area and either adapt one of the standard courses or if preferred design and create a brand new course from scratch, tailored to your needs. This can include any policy or procedures you currently use and specifically target key areas you may have identified as 'weak' or 'gap' areas e.g. sales performance, achieving targets, interpesonal skills etc.

What are the payment/T&C's?

Full terms and conditions can be found on the seperate T&C's page on the main menu.

How effective is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is highly effective in the treatment and recovery from many issues. In a comparative study conducted by American Health Magazine, it was found to be more effective than Behavioural Therapy or Psychcoanalysis

Do I have to add hypnosis to the training course?

No...absolutely not. It is entirely up to you if you want to add hypnosis to your training day.

Do you do training without hypnosis? Do all courses have hypnosis?

You can decide whether your training day cantains hypnosis or not.
